In Pursuit of The Dream (Part 1)

If asked; why won’t Bahamians fight together passionately toward anything other than Junkanoo parades and political campaigns, I would answer; because no one ever told them that they could. No one ever told them that (as citizen of Bahamas) they have the right to freedom of thought and to express that thought [within the confines of the law] freely.

Relying upon politicians [trained in the practice of law] to explain, to you, your rights (in languish you can actually understand) is on all accounts [according to your parliamentary representatives]; neither needed nor necessary within our democratic society.

As the few understands all too well about “our” special democratic nation namely; our leaders are simple products of a society conditioned to adapt an attitude of subservience with national pride. A society of passive relatively friendly people, breathe to be told what to think, say and do.

With very little available avenues (under the law) by which a law abiding citizen can prosperously participate in the more lucrative business aspect within the society, the individual alone has little chance of ever achieving the Bahamian dream. The very law written and intended as a refuge and protection from the evil doers [those whom may or may not inflict harm] has now been amended to inflict harm upon the very citizen themselves.

The promise of a better tomorrow becomes ever so distant, as a silent voice heard over the passing wind; the realization of becoming destitute proves ever apparent when one challenges the status quo. To, as it were; make sense of a system initially and literally designed to be confusing is as equal to one given the right to freedom with restrictions.

It is said that The Commonwealth of Bahamas is a sovereign nation, yet her leaders solemnly pledge their allegiance to a foreign mistress, whom duly directs them upon all manner of things to think, say and/or do. The cries of her children often go unheard by the leaders. Their voices are silenced by the roar of the lion, or overshadowed by the outspread wings of the eagle.

Scrutinized beneath an ever watchful eye, from moments that consumes her leaders utmost and undivided attention; leaving relatively very little quality time with which to dedicate to her children. The children grow weary and despondent to common social queues. Given the seemingly obvious disconnect between what is the right thing to say and/or do; her leadership express pride upon doing that which inevitably prove to be politically expedient irrespective of social fallout.

Is there any hope left for the hopeless, the down trodden disenfranchised electorate that cased a ballet for a better way for life, only, in return, to be told that he or she is prohibited [by the laws of the land] to gainfully participate in very lucrative business ventures that [by the law of the land] make provisions for any foreigner to literally thrive thereby. The philosophy which the political leadership had adapted, promoting a better Bahamas, place that which is foreign above and before that which is local and Bahamian.

I do understand, what may seem absurdly obvious to the few may not appear the same to the many, and despite reluctance to add; what appears foolish to the wise may appear as wisdom before the fool. This is in no means intended to reflect upon any specific faction within our society, however, its purpose was intended to impress upon those better qualities in an effort to build a better Bahamas for all Bahamians.

It has now, more than ever, became critical that we [as Bahamians] take an important stand, not for what seem right in the eye of the world but rather; to stand for what is right in and for our lives. It’s time we take a stand to make Bahamas better for Bahamians for the first time.

Had your cup of bitters lately..?

Unlike in our recent past, when children were taught the simple values, that if one (holistically) apply him/her self to the principles of truth; one would thereby be enabled to support themselves, their families, and contribute to the needs of those (for whatever reasons) left widowed and orphaned in their local communities. The trend at present is threefold; children are simply taught to value cheating, lies and materialism above all else, even thy own self.

Today, children are taught to value dishonest practices, and for whatever reasons; the result of such had spawned an infestation of energetic, socially challenged, criminally oriented fragments in and off our modern society. Seemingly, the proverbial pendulum of consequence now cut deepest in the opposite direction.

What can one do, when the fears of the nation germinate within the soul of those you had brought into this world? The child you had freely and loving given life; now violently and mercilessly take the same away from another and/or themselves. Where had our values gone; were they loss to the ravages of time, or simply replaced with sparkling illusions of fortune and fame?

Very little is known about The Spirit of Bahamas; that force of nature which created our 700 islands floating upon tranquil crystal clear waters, resting under the radiating orb of the sun.
It was told that when God created the earth, He made The Islands of Bahamas as the vacation place of the angles; there they cleaned and rejuvenated themselves within the crystal clear water, and after resting their heavenly bodies upon our beaches; the white sand turns pink even to this present day.

What is often difficult for me to reasonably understand about our relatively small yet fairly budding Bahamian society is this fact; if just 10,000 citizens, decide (for whatever reason) to converge upon Rawson Square (during a session of Parliament), demanding anything constitutionally applicable or otherwise; their voice will be acknowledged, and demands expediently met.

More difficult for me, is a growing nation of under 300,000 citizens, with relatively limited resources; willingly selling off the more valuable aspects of those resources to foreign citizens and/or entities. What possibly beneficial return could be derived (for future Bahamian generations) from a long term relationship such as this?

Despite the enormous challenges that we face (as a people). Despite the public social dramas, wild accusations and speculation; beneath it all, Bahamians are still the most beautiful and friendliest people in the entire world. Above all these, we are still Bahamian, and as such; we are taught (always) to lift up our head towards a new horizon and to a brighter day.

The 7 Laws for Success in Business

Despite the golden rules, the million dollar gurus’ self-help methods for success, the countless info-commercials’ extraordinary claims of instant wealth and the list goes on; the harsh reality of it all is often heavy and heartbreaking for many. At times it almost feels like success [maybe] was not meant for you.

To this end, I have compiled a brief and specific guide to creating success, even in a failing economy. Simply apply the following (7) laws within your belief system and positively reaffirm them in your daily routine.

The 7 Laws for Success in Business

1. Law of Opportunity: Everybody needs something; find out what that need is and simply supply and/or service it.

2. Law of Self-Development: Realize early on, what your talent/s are [your strengths and abilities] and master them.

3. Law of Customer Satisfaction: There is always a quicker, easier and cheaper way of doing business, but the best way is always the clients/customers way; when they are happier, your bottom line begins to look a lot healthier.

4. Law of Expansion: Outsource your inefficiencies to those, of whom; such attributes are their strengths.

5. Law of Diversification: When you have completely satisfied your curiosity with one passion; pursue another with even greater curiosity.

6. Law of Savings: This is not simply something that one does, but rather; the way in which one lives. It is through savings we learn the importance of gathering and protecting those things most valuable and dear to our hearts; even our very existence in life, and most certainly in the life of every business.

7. Law of Time: The latter is greater than the forma, in that, it teaches one the important value business place upon numbers; that although it (Time) is the common commodity, equally share by all alike; no one can own it which makes time more valuable than life itself.

NOTE: As with all worthwhile endeavors; only after one conquers fear, can one truly enjoy victory, and, only after you have overcame your fear of failing, will you find the courage needed to succeed at anything.
